2021 Painting Report

In 2021, 25 new figures were recruited into the world of Redcoats and Ruffles.

They came in a variety of costumes and allegiances.

The biggest gainer in recruiting was the Royal Navy, acquiring six new recruits!  Figures by Mars and Safari.  Two of the sailors have already been individually featured on this blog at:

The Hessian Regiment von Bose managed to get two privates and a commissioned officer in 2021.

Figures by HAT Enterprises.

The Queen's Rangers added two recruits.  One was previously featured on Redcoats and Ruffles at:

Figures by BMC.

The 80th Regiment received one private and the 43rd, one ensign.

Figures by Accurate and ATS.

All in all, the British had an excellent year, accounting for 13 of the 25 figures painted.

In contrast to the British, the Americans could muster 5 men in 2021.  Four of these are privates.  The ensign carrying the flag has already been featured at http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2021/07/7th-pennsylvania-ensign-with-flag.html

Figures by A Call to Arms, Safari, LOD Enterprises, and ATS.

The French have been recruiting, too.  This fierce grenadier from the Gatinois Regiment is only the first of (hopefully) many more to come!

Figure by BMC.

Rounding out the year are six civilian figures.  Three of them have already been featured here:

The other three are eager to be introduced to you, which will be coming shortly!

2020 Recap-Scenery

In addition to painting twenty-three figures, who are showcased at http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2021/01/2020-recap-painted-figures.html, I also completed twenty scenic items.

7 trees (only 6 are shown, but the seventh is just like the large ones)

6 crop rows.  I have no idea what these crops are.

6 household items, mostly from Marx recasts

And most importantly, the BMC House (which previously featured in its own post here: http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2020/05/bmc-house.html)

2020 Recap-Painted Figures

In 2020, I painted a total of 23 new figures to add to Redcoats & Ruffles.

From right to left:

4 new recruits for the 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment

1 new recruit for the Continental Light Infantry

4 civilians, including Henri Lefebvre (featured here)

2 members of King Roland II's court: his steward and a guard, who were previously featured here, and here.

3 new recruits for "Kemp's Greys" a (fictitious) bodyguard unit for an East India Company director (One featured at http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2020/03/twos-company.html)

3 new recruits (including one commissioned officer) for His Majesty's 43rd Regiment of Foot

5 new recruits (including another commissioned officer) for the Queen's American Rangers

1 jolly tar for His Majesty's Royal Navy

I also painted 20 pieces of scenery, which will be featured in the next post.

Mustering the Troops--2019

In 2019 I achieved the goal of painting 29 figures.  However, only 28 are joining Redcoats and Ruffles because one was a gift.  (Click all images for larger versions)

Elite Continental light infantry are always useful, and the light company of the 2nd Canadian Regiment mustered three figures, with an additional light infantryman in a comfortable summer "uniform" of a hunting shirt.  The 2nd Pennsylvania Regiment also mustered two fusiliers, as did the French Regiment Gatenais.
Gaskins’ detachment of the Virginia Line also began recruiting with two men.

The Loyalist unit Queen’s Rangers began its muster with three infantrymen.  Look for more from them in 2020!  King George's army was also reinforced with 5 privates of the 43rd Regiment of Foot.

Civilians had a strong 2019, with nine new figures. Some were royalty or nobility, while others were laborers.  Some have already been showcased on Redcoats and Ruffles: http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2019/12/commodore-james-norrington.html

http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2019/06/royalty.html

http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2019/01/libertys-kids-lady-phillips-disney.html

The rest eagerly await their turn in the spotlight.

The 29th figure was a present for my sister’s high school graduation.  It shows her in the costume she wore for her ballet solo en pointe.

Not counted in the 29 figures painted were three repaints, shown here.

These figures were at one time part of my "Seven Years War in India" project, but that has since been dropped and some of the figures repurposed.  The gentleman in light blue coat (originally the splendidly-named Willoughby Tregellis, Governor of St. Christopher's Island for the Honorable East India Company) appears perturbed at his change in status--held at gunpoint by two American militia.

2018 Figure Recap

In 2018, I painted 26 figures to add to my growing collections.  Each group of related figures is highlighted below.

Click on any picture to expand it.

Three American militiamen by Accurate.  The mounted militiaman is a conversion of an Accurate body with Marx legs and rifle.  The horse is from Classic Toy Soldiers.

The militiaman in red cap has been featured on this blog at
http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/03/militiaman-from-mollo-and-mcgregor.html

Three Continental soldiers from ATS.  The two in blue coats will join the 2nd Pennsylvania, while the third joins the light infantry (featured in http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/11/continental-light-infantry-in-hunting.html)

These three soldiers are British Infantry at Culloden, produced by Replicants.  While they suffered from much flash, the figures themselves were splendid and a joy to paint.

Moving on to the British, the 43rd Regiment of Foot has begun its mustering.  In a pinch, these figures can double as British marines.

(Why did I paint three soldiers of every unit last year?  It certainly was not intentional)

At last, a unit with four figures!  These men are from the Hesse-Cassell Regiment von Bose.  They were previously featured on this blog at http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/04/hessian-regiment-von-bose.html.

Yet another unit with three recruits!

These soldiers are from the French Regiment Gatenais, and sport distinctive purple lapels and cuff piping.

The 18th Century is not complete without civilians.  Six new figures (including two reinforcements for the petticoat brigade) have moved into town.   Five are based on movie characters from Liberty's Kids and Beauty and the Beast.

Four of them have been featured on Redcoats and Ruffles at:

http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/05/libertys-kids-character-james-hiller.html
http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/01/sarah-phillips.html
http://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2018/11/beauty-and-beast.html

More information on each figure (if he or she has not been highlighted already) to follow, including manufacturer, conversion, and paint.

2017 Recap part 2--Tarleton's British Legion

(to see the previous installment of 2017 figures, visit https://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2017/12/2017-recap-part-1-french-indian-war.html)

The unit that I made the most progress on during 2017 was Banastre Tarleton's British Legion.  Four riders and their horses were begun and finished in the year.

Charge!

Many American militiamen experienced this scene as Tarleton's hard-riding cavalry slammed into their lines.

Stay tuned for the next showcase of 2017 figures!

2017 Recap part 1--French & Indian War

During this year of 2017, two new figures joined my painted French & Indian War collection.
The first figure is a mounted figure of Lieutenant-Colonel George Monro of the 35th Regiment.

A side view of Lieutenant-Colonel Monro.

The next figure fought against Colonel Monro and his British regulars.  He is a French militiaman standing firing wearing summer dress.

The new militiaman joins his comrade who was finished last year (see https://redcoatsandruffles.blogspot.com/2017/01/painted-figures-of-2016.html)

Stay tuned for the next showcase of 2017 figures!
